Passport, Visa & Entry Requirements
If you are visiting Sri Lanka, your passport should be valid for 6 months from the date you arrive.
You will need a visa to visit Sri Lanka. Tourist visas are normally valid for 30 days. We recommend applying for a Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) online at least a few days before departure. Approval is usually received within 24 hours, and you can use the ETA approval to enter Sri Lanka.

Transfer Time
Bandaranaike International Airport (Colombo) to Colombo: Approximately 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic.
Health Requirements
Consult your GP or travel clinic before departure about vaccinations and travel advise. Use mosquito repellent, particularly at dawn and dusk. Drink bottled or filtered water and avoid ice unless you are confident it has been made from treated water.
Carry prescription medication in its original packaging and check any restrictions before travelling.
Currency
Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, larger restaurants and shops. Carry some cash for local markets, smaller businesses, entrance fees and gratuities. ATMs are widely available throughout the country
Passports & Visas
British citizens require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling to Sri Lanka. Your passport must be undamaged, have two blank pages and be valid for at least six months from arrival. Other nationalities should check their own requirements.
Important Information
Sri Lanka is 5½ hours ahead of the UK during winter and 4½ hours ahead during British Summer Time. Electricity is 230V. Plug types D, M and G may be used, so a universal travel adaptor is recommended.
Take care in busy traffic and keep valuables secure. Respect local customs and traditions, particularly when visiting temples and religious sites. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required, as this holiday includes substantial walking, sightseeing, travel and occasional early starts.
